Pub Garden Makeover
Take a walk through the stages of this pub garden makeover. When the owners of The Chequers Inn, Loose, Maidstone contacted us to discuss an update to their pub garden we were delighted to take on the project. From a covered seating area to new artificial lawn, reclaimed brick walls and plenty more.
Stage one -
Setting up the new project by fencing off the area. In that area we installed a long seating area, covered by a corrugated metal roof pergola. Here we are installing the pergola framework ready for the roof.
Stage two -
Installing the corrugated metal roof and privacy screen framework.
Stage three -
The second timber delivery arrived which means that we could complete the install of the privacy screens. Once the screens are in we move in the garden furniture.
Stage four -
Preparations begin for the groundwork, starting with excavation of the top surface and leveling of the ground. Trenches are then dug for planter and bench seating foundations.
Stage five -
The type 1 base is laid for the artificial grass.
Stage six -
The concrete arrived and the footings are installed ready to start building the planters and bench seating.
Stage 7 -
Brick days: 1500x 200+year old Maidstone bricks; recycled from a pre-Victorian walled
garden. Repurposed for a wall in this pub garden makeover.
Look out for evidence of years and years of espalier fruit-training nails. Also the glazing marks where before firing sand was thrown against the loosely stacked pile of bricks to make sure some had the darkened ends desirable to make the ‘Flemish bond’ pattern we
are copying from the existing pub wall.
Also see the signatures of the brickmakers all that time ago: ‘Hines 630’
Stage 8 -
The final stage of ground preparations before the artificial grass is laid.
Stage 9 -
Existing patio jet washed and repointed.
Stage 10 -
Artificial grass installed, new gate, inbuilt bench seating and borders complete.
Stage 11 -
Furniture delivered.
